ROTE ISLAND

Deep in the Indonesian archipelago, here you will find deserted white sand beaches, crystal clear turquoise waters, intricate mangrove forests, untouched coral reefs, vibrant marine life, world class waves and some of the most breathtaking sunsets you'll ever witness. Rote Island is often described as paradise on earth.

Located at the southernmost tip of Indonesia, about 150 km north of Australia, Rote Island is part of the East Nusa Tenggara province, an extraordinary region made up of hundreds of islands, each rich in natural beauty, culture and tradition. Rote has remained blissfully untouched, earning its reputation as Indonesia's best kept secret.

Life moves at a slower pace here. There are no crowds, no traffic and very little distraction, just endless ocean views, swaying palms, pristine beaches and a deep sense of peace. Rotenese people are very friendly. The island itself is also very safe. They are mainly of Christian faith and religion plays an important role in their lives. The local economy in Rote is characterised mostly by farming. Fishing and animal rearing are also popular, hence the frequent sight of pigs, goats and cows roaming the island freely.

The menu blends Indonesian and Western cuisine, using mostly locally sourced ingredients and produce from their own garden. They produce their own organic eggs and raise free range chickens and ducks.
